Reopening of Old Sarum Airfield to visiting aircraft

During autumn 2026 we will be gradually opening the airfield to visiting aircraft. This will be initially on a scheduled specific day basis where we will notify a monthly schedule of the days the airfield will be open to visiting aircraft permitting pre-booking through the website.

The airfield will be open at times advised on each day that it is open.

Air to Ground radio will be available on 123.205 and all visiting aircraft MUST call prior to entering the circuit.

As previously, skydiving will be active on certain days and this will be advised via the air to ground radio.

All flights will require PPR at least 48 hours prior to arrival and may be requested via the website form below. Your request will be conditional on receiving a confirmation email to say it has been approved. 

At present, we cannot accept PPR via RT before entering the ATZ. Please read the joining and departure procedures below – you can also download these for printing out HERE.

The airfield regrets pusher type microlights are discouraged.

Joining

• The standard approach to OS (Old Sarum) will be via the Alderbury VRP reporting point as shown on aeronautical chart.
• On approach to OS and before entering the Boscombe zone please call BD on 126.705 to advise intention of joining the OS circuit.
• On approaching Alderbury call Old Sarum Radio on 123.205 to advise intention to join circuit.
• OS will advise current airfield information and whether there are parachutes in the air. All circuits will be to the south i.e runway 06 right or 24 left. Overhead joins are not permitted.
• If parachutes are in air a request will be made to hold until on ground.
• From Alderbury approach OS circuit (24 LH or 06 RH) at 800 ft to join extended base leg.
• Call A/G when established on base.
• Call final
• Park as advised by A/G once runway vacated.

Departure

• Call A/G for start-up and intention to depart.
• A/G will advise runway in use and parachute activity. If advised parachutes in air please hold until all parachutes are on ground.
• When advised that all parachutes are on ground proceed to runway holding point.
• Hold at runway holding point and advise when ready to depart.
• Departure on 24 will require a left hand turn to Alderbury.
• Straight out departure on 24 may be used subject to traffic.
• Departure on 06 will require a right hand turn out avoiding D127.
• Call BD to advise leaving MATZ via Alderbury.
• Stay on 123.205 until at VRP to monitor OS traffic.
• Be advised no fuel is available at Old Sarum.
